Once again, Minnesota is at the forefront of conversations around racism and police violence. We are grieving with Amir Locke's family and all who have been impacted, including countless other lives lost. This is just the most recent police murder of a Black man, after centuries of racialized and state-sanctioned violence across the country.
We can't fulfill Sierra Club's mission of creating a livable planet for everyone if Black and brown communities fear for their lives due to a racist policing system.
Here are some ways you can help right away, and join with community organizations to demand #JusticeForAmirLocke:
- Join a grassroots coalition of Minneapolis residents Friday February 11 at 12 p.m. at City Hall to call for an ethics investigation of Mayor Frey and his role leading to the murder of 22-year old Amir Locke by the Minneapolis Police Department.
- Minneapolis residents can join in filing an individual complaint here!
- Support the family of Amir Locke by donating to the Memorial Fund: https://www.gofundme.com/f/amir-locke-memorial-fund
