Campaign teams advocate for legislative change on environmental issues.
Stop Line Three
Construction has begun on Line 3, and the community has been unsuccessful in swaying state officials to stop the project. The team’s focus now is on supporting the water protectors who are taking direct action against the line: Continuing with litigation that may prevent the line from being used to transport dirty oil; and working to persuade the Biden administration to stop the project. Stay up to date on the fight and actions to take by joining the Stop Line 3 Action list, sign-up here.
Zero Waste Task Force
The Zero Waste Task Force is planning actions at Burger King and Subway to encourage them to eliminate PFAS chemicals from their packaging. Dates and times are currently to be determined and will be announced on the task force's Twitter and Facebook pages when set.
Land Use and Transportation
The Land Use and Transportation group welcomed a special guest from Duluth, Jordan van der Hagen, to talk about Highway 61 Revisited. No, not the acclaimed Bob Dylan album, but rather a reimagining of a divisive highway that would provide greater community access and connectedness to the Duluth waterfront. Jordan’s presentation sparked ideas that could be included in the Twin Cities’ Rethinking I-94 effort, and the team feels inspired to push the envelope on what is possible for greenspaces and non-motorized access with an urban highway project. St. Paul has now joined Minneapolis in passing a resolution calling for reparative justice, safety, and transportation equity along the I-94 corridor.
