The Sierra Club North Star Chapter is getting excited for our upcoming 20th Annual Bike Tour on Saturday, September 19th. For twenty years now it has offered an opportunity for bicyclists to explore different parts of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro region, from suburban areas to a variety of routes within the bustling urban fabric. In honor of its 20th anniversary, this year’s Tour will circle Saint Paul to celebrate the capital city’s new bike plan, which will bring much more bike connectivity to the transportation infrastructure.
What makes the Sierra Club Bike Tour unique? Our Tour combines scenic rides with activism. We feature educational speakers such as political leaders, environmental scientists and activists at several “rest areas” to inform riders about important issues affecting the area. At these rest areas we also offer treats and lunch for participants to munch on as they listen to the speakers and chat with other riders. It’s not uncommon for riders to stick around the rest areas, chatting and nibbling, before hitting the road again at their own pace. The Sierra Club Bike Tour group rides, laughs, eats and learns together on an easy-going route of approximately 20 miles. All ages and abilities are supported and encouraged to ride with us.
One special aspect of our wonderful state is the friendly and healthy culture. What better way to enjoy the urban outdoors than to gather together for a communal bike ride with fellow eco-conscious Minnesotans? Whether you’re from the Twin Cities, the surrounding region, or Greater Minnesota, we’d love to have you on the Tour, gracing the streets. Let’s explore together! Registration costs $35 for regular admission and $10 for students, which includes a t-shirt, lunch, and other snacks along the route. You can register and find more information here. We hope to see you there!
