This Thursday: An Evening With the Cousteau Family

On May 7, the Sierra Club North Star Chapter is pleased to partner in An Evening with the Cousteau Family, the next installment of the Inspiring Minds Speaker Series at Beth El Synagogue in Saint Louis Park, featuring Jean-Michel Cousteau and his children Celine Cousteau and Fabien Cousteau.

He has produced over 80 films and has been sharing his love and concern for our water planet to people around the world for more than four decades. In 1999, Jean-Michel founded the Ocean Futures Society to carry on this pioneering work and to honor his heritage.

 

CousteauCéline Cousteau is founder and executive director of CauseCentric Productions, a non-profit organization creating cause focused multi-media content. A member of the World Economic Forum Council on Oceans,her current major work is a multimedia project and engagement campaign Tribes on the Edge based on the indigenous tribes of the Vale do Javari reserve in the Brazilian Amazon.

He is a longtime shark advocate and founder of the non profit organization Plant a Fish, which engages local communities in helping to steward and restore their marine environment through responsible “re-planting” of key marine species in their local habitats.

 

Carrying on the pioneering work of Jacques Cousteau – who was recognized with the John Muir Award, the Sierra Club’s highest honor, in 1976 – Jean-Michel, Celine and Fabien embody their father and grandfather’s legacy of educating and awakening new generations to the splendor and the plight of our oceans and planet.

Recent speakers featured in the Beth El Synagogue’s Inspiring Minds Series have included Neil deGrasse Tyson, Michael Pollan and Gloria Steinem.
