Panel Discussion on Labor & Environment

On Monday, March 19, the Montgomery County Group hosted a panel discussion focused on ways to strengthen the ties between the labor and environmental movements. Panel participants included Joe Uehlein (formerly with the AFL-CIO), founder of the Labor Network for Sustainability; David Mott, former SEIU Organizing Coordinator; Julie Farb, Director of Growth Strategies, AFL-CIO; and James White, Director of Organizing, Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation Workers.

Panelists focused on the history and challenges facing the two movements, but also highlighted successful coalitions with recent examples. The panelists and attendees discussed the importance of building relationships and creating bonds of trust between the two movements.

The next steps for the Montgomery County Group are to build on this foundation for future work and create a model of what the labor and environmental movements can accomplish together.
