Join us for a Joint Potluck Picnic with the Washington County and Catoctin Groups of the Sierra Club!

Come join us August 17, 2024, 12–3:00 PM, at Pen Mar Park, Pavilion 1. Meet area residents who are also interested in the natural world around us!

You do not have to be a member of the club to attend, so friends and family are welcome! We do ask that you let us know ahead of time if you're attending and how many will be in your party. We'd like to get an accurate estimate so we can bring enough burgers (we'll have both veggie and beef), buns, lemonade, and water. Please feel free to bring any dishes of your own. Some suggestions are:

Baked beans, Salads (pasta, potato, fruit etc.)
Fresh fruit, Veggie tray, chips, dip, etc.
Desserts
Your signature picnic dish!

We are greening the potluck by asking you to bring your own plates, cups, cutlery, napkins and table coverings. Please avoid disposable plastic and Styrofoam. We hope to set an example of Zero Waste. The picnic has picnic tables with bench seats, but you may bring your own folding chairs if desired. The ExCom members will arrive at 11:30 to begin setting things up and get the grills going.

The following meetings are ways to become more informed regarding the proposed Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG) regional transmission line. This high-voltage power line is being proposed to meet projected energy demands of the region, in large part because of data centers. August 14, 2024: Online information session hosted by PSEG from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. You can register here. PSEG invites you to share your questions in advance via the registration link. The meeting will be held via Zoom.
August 21, 2024: Town Hall Meeting hosted by Delegate Nino Mangione in Baltimore County from 6:00 to 10:00 PM at Hereford High School. Please register here.
August 22, 2024: Carroll County Commissioners Listening Session from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Carroll County Ag Center.
August 29, 2024: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM: Maryland Data Center Summit at Frederick Community College.

Our next SCCG meeting will be Saturday September 7, 2024 at the C. Burr Artz Library in downtown Frederick. We are planning a presentation and group discussion of the Theory of Change. Stay tuned!
