Volunteers needed to clean up Bayou Lafourche

THIBODAUX - (PRESS RELEASE) The Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program (BTNEP) is still accepting volunteers for its 7th Annual 2018 Bayou Lafourche Cleanup on March 10, 2018.

The cleanup event will be held from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. and is projected to clean up 106 miles of the bayou from Donaldsonville to Leeville. The cleanup will be done mostly from boats, but volunteers will also be needed to clean in areas around bridges and along the bayou side. Volunteers are needed in all areas along the 106 miles. Please consider joining BTNEP for the morning or even a few hours. Every volunteer will receive a t-shirt.

The purpose of the cleanup is to raise awareness about marine debris and clean the body of water that provides the drinking water for our area. It also brings awareness to the growing push towards the EPA’s Trash-Free Waters campaign.

“If you have a boat and have not been in Bayou Lafourche, this is a great opportunity to explore your backyard natural resource and help to clean it,” said Alma Robichaux, Bayou Lafourche Cleanup Project Coordinator.

Anyone wishing to sign up to volunteer for the March 10 event can register online at https://form.jotform.com/80085599208162 or contact Alma Robichaux at alma@btnep.org.
