Watch: Chasing the Distance

A new film, Chasing the Distance, offers a personal look into the lives of ultra-running athletes and husband and wife team Rob Krar and Christina Bauer. In the piece, they share their deep connection to each other and the area of the proposed Greater Grand Canyon Heritage National Monument in Arizona.

"We fell in love camping here. A piece of my heart is in this place," says Christina Bauer in the film. "Every time we get out it brings us together,” adds Krar talking about the public lands surrounding Grand Canyon.

The rugged cliffs, pine forests, deep canyons and grasslands of the proposed national monument support countless opportunities for outdoor recreation and spiritual renewal. The desire to experience this special place draws people from around the world, generating millions each year for the economy and supporting thousands of jobs. Though intimately connected with the well-being of Grand Canyon National Park and the health of local communities and economies, this area remains at risk from threats such as toxic uranium mining. A national monument designation would permanently protect the region. Add your voice to support the national monument today
