Weekend getaway planned for October

Weekend in the Woods will be held Friday, Oct. 5, through Sunday, Oct. 7, for Sierra Club members, family and friends who want to get away from it all and enjoy the fall colors.

We'll stay in rustic cabins at Camp Ouatoga at Pere Marquette State Park near Grafton and prepare meals in the large dining hall. Lodging is available at the same low price. Or you can just participate in daytime activities. 

Here are some highlights:

-- A flying squirrels presentation by Rachael Heaton.

-- Hikes led by Rich Keating and Susan Murray.

-- A bike ride and canoe paddle led by Craig Heaton.

-- An introduction to "forest bathing" by Carol Klinger.

-- A scavenger hunt for the young and young at heart.

-- Linguine and more by chef Katie Heaton.

-- A morning hospitality bar with oatmeal and toppings.

-- Music and socializing around a campfire.
