Contra Dancing in Elsah

By Richard C. Keating

By 7:00 pm on the evening of June 13, three musicians, their sound system, and snacks were ready to go at Farley Music Hall in Elsah.  People filed in expecting a fun, energetic evening at the Piasa Palisades group contra dance fundraiser, and they weren’t disappointed.  The caller, Dale Wilson, did his usual great job of leading us through the moves. The band, the Fiscal Cliff Hangers, made up of Nancy Lippincott, Richard Hibbs, and Lindell Blackford, played traditional music at just the right pace for the dances. Nancy, as well as Nan and Neil Adams and I, certainly express our gratitude to the St. Louis community of contra dancers who whole-heartedly turned out to support this evening of fun and fundraising. A great evening, in the perfect venue, in a village that transports one back in time to a traditional era. Keep in mind that these dances take place each second Saturday evening beginning in September.
