Sierra Club Illinois Announces Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Endorsements
Illinois -- Today, Sierra Club Illinois announced its endorsements in the primary election for the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) of Greater Chicago. Endorsements include: Precious Brady-Davis (2-year term), Marcelino Garcia (6-year term), Dan Pogorzelski (6-year term), and Kari Steele (6-year term). Sierra Club’s full list of primary endorsements can be found here and will stay updated as more endorsements are announced.
“The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is Cook County’s most critical environmental agency—they are tasked with treating wastewater and managing stormwater in the Greater Chicago area. As we face mounting climate risks as a state and as a nation, it’s critical that the Commissioners at the helm of the MWRD are prepared to face these challenges,” said Sierra Club Illinois Clean Water Advocate Dr. Mila Marshall. “As the severe flooding Chicago experienced last summer makes clear, we need to invest in water infrastructure and nature-based solutions to protect communities and our public health from increased storms and flooding. Sierra Club’s endorsed candidates for MWRD have demonstrated deep commitment to leading the fight for clean water for all, and we’re proud to recommend them to Sierra Club members and voters across Cook County.”
“With federal Clean Water Act protections being curtailed by the US Supreme Court, it's more important than ever that Illinois leaders step up to protect our wetlands and water supply,” said Sierra Club Illinois Director Jack Darin. “These are champions we can count on to protect Lake Michigan, the Chicago River, and our communities with local safeguards and investments in clean water infrastructure.”
Sierra Club’s contacts with Illinois voters on behalf of endorsed candidates are funded by Sierra Club Illinois PAC. Copies of our reports are available from the State Board of Elections in Springfield, Illinois.
