Sierra Club Illinois Statement on Passage of Polystyrene Foam Ban in the Illinois State Senate

SPRINGFIELD, IL -- Today, the Illinois State Senate passed the Polystyrene Foam Ban, which bans the use of toxic polystyrene foam at state agencies and universities. The Polystyrene Foam Ban now heads to Governor JB Pritzker’s desk.

In response, Sierra Club Illinois Director Jack Darin released the following statement:

“We owe it to our young people and Illinois’ future to provide safe, clean open space that gives all Illinoisans healthy places to experience nature and wildlife. Today, Illinois took an important step toward reducing the plastic waste that pollutes those places while also clogging our landfills and littering our streets. While there is more work to do to ensure Illinois is free of plastic pollution, this is an exciting first step.”
