“Lake Michigan offshore wind is a very promising part of Illinois' 100% renewable energy future, and a big opportunity to bring prosperity to Chicago communities that need it most," said Sierra Club Illinois Director Jack Darin.
“Our Great Lake is a precious and priceless asset, and this proposal ensures that any clean energy project in Lake Michigan will undergo rigorous environmental review and multiple permitting processes. If those reviews conclude that a project will harm our Lake, it will not go forward. If it can be done safely, as in other locations, it will be a crucial step forward in the fight against climate change.
“We must always protect Lake Michigan, and we also must heed the call of science to eliminate fossil fuels from our power supply as soon as possible. We applaud Senator Peters and Representative Evans for leading this effort to open the opportunities of the clean energy economy to those to Chicago's south side, and help our entire state achieve our goal of a clean energy future.”
