It’s the final countdown, and I can’t think of anyone working harder than our political committee, endorsed candidates, and their staff. Our groups of canvassers have been small…but MIGHTY! This past weekend, I enjoyed conversations with State Senator Suzy Glowiak Hilton, State House candidate Diane Blaire Sherlock, State Senate candidate Laurie Nowak, and Congressman Sean Casten. Two of my favorite candidates I’ve worked with are Daniel Hebreard, who is running for re-election as DuPage County Forest Preserve District President, and Jeff Gahris, who is running for re-election as DuPage Forest Preserve Commissioner of District 4. Oftentimes, we don’t make time to research local and county candidates, but the work that these folks do on the local level is beyond crucial to the everyday lives of people like me who live in the area. Friends—don’t forget to vote down-ballot and do what you can (whether it’s canvassing for your local candidate or making some phone calls) as the midterm elections draw ever-nearer.

There are less than two weeks until Election Day! This past weekend, I went out to Grayslake to canvass for Senator Mary Edly-Allen, who is running for re-election, and Laura Favor Dias, who is running for Illinois State House. The weather was beyond beautiful—75 degrees in late October! The trees were majestic with their vivid fall colors. I’m looking forward to upcoming campaign opportunities, like all of the canvasses this Saturday, October 29, including: NWCC with Nabeela Syed, VOF with Maura Hirschauer and Karina Villa, and WWG with Joyce Mason and Anthony Vega. I hope to see Sierra Club staff and volunteers there!
