The Green Corridor Coalition is pleased to announce the winners of its recent photo competition. The contest was designed to familiarize people with the green corridor that was once targeted for the construction of the proposed Route 53 Extension by the Illinois Tollway.

The Green Corridor Coalition is a group of lake county residents, leaders and environmental groups that includes the Sierra Club Illinois Chapter as well as its Woods & Wetlands Group, Lake County Audubon Society, Openlands, Midwest Sustainability Group and Friends of Indian Creek Wetlands.

The competition was open to all amateur photographers and focused on the nature and wildlife of the wetlands and woods of the 13-mile strip of undeveloped land that runs from where Rt. 53 currently ends, at Lake-Cook Road, and continues north to Rt. 120 in Grayslake. The contest was designed to “ help everyone experience the beauty and splendor of these lands, where scenic views and rare habitats provide local communities with a gateway to connect to nature and improve their health, resilience, and quality of life. “
