SPRINGFIELD, IL -- Today, the Senate passed SB18 following the latest round of energy negotiations. While several amendments were advanced throughout the day with improvements to the decarbonization policies in the Senate’s bill, there are still outstanding items that stakeholders look to the House to resolve.

In response, Sierra Club Illinois Director Jack Darin released the following statement:

“Today we made real progress toward a comprehensive climate and equity bill that delivers the future we want for Illinois and our planet. We commend the hard work of the many stakeholders working to reach an agreement on historic energy legislation for Illinois, and we will continue that work with the Illinois House to pass a groundbreaking climate and equity bill that meets the urgency of the climate crisis.”
