Seeking Volunteer Treasurer & Transaction Manager

We have the opportunity for a volunteer to engage with our chapter in a more official capacity, either as a Treasurer or a Transaction Manager.

If you or a person you know is motivated to help the Sierra Club thrive, please let us know to discuss further!  Helping in either of these roles enables us all to carry out the Sierra Club mission. If we are able to have volunteers fulfill these roles, it’s much like a financial donation enabling us to use our limited funds for other purposes.

The Treasurer position is a leadership role providing oversight of the Chapter’s finances, serving as a liaison to the national Sierra Club’s Finance Department, and – if not already a member of Executive Committee - serving as a non-voting officer to the chapter’s ExCom (local Board).  The Treasurer role does not require a background in finance, though one does need to have a comfort level with numbers and spreadsheets.

While the job description reflects the responsibilities described by the national Sierra Club for the Treasurer role, we are splitting off the responsibilities we’re calling Transaction Management: picking up checks/invoices/requests from the office 2-3 times/month, keeping records of transactions (e.g., receipts), entering data/transactions into an online accounting program, and reconciling monthly bank statements (e.g., money in and out of the bank account should match the transactions recorded in the online program).  In addition to the Treasurer position, the chapter is seeking 2 people to help with this Transaction Manager role in order to share the workload.

Through national Sierra Club, we have access to training and instructions, and our outgoing Treasurer remains available to help the transition or field future questions.  Our Chapter Chair also has a finance background and have served as treasurer for other non-profits, so she's also poised to help.

Please see the job description for further information.  If any of this sounds intimidating, please know that some of this applies seldom to our small chapter, and our national Sierra Club helps provide the knowledge base necessary to carry out these responsibilities.  If you have any interest at all, please contact our Chapter Chair ASAP to chat further!  IdahoSierraClub@gmail.com
