City Council Candidate Questioner
The Idaho Chapter Sierra Club recently worked with a diverse array of nonprofits and community organizations to host a candidates' forum focused on five core issues and the purpose was twofold. First the groups wanted to create visability and educate our candidates about the issues we work on in the Boise area that impact daily life our our neighbors and friends. The second goal was to provide space in our local races for a diversity of voices by focusing in on areas of local government that get less visability in campaign cycles and impact some of our most vulnerable community members.
Together, the thirteen partnering groups came together and hosted six of our candidates for forum on October 4th in the packed building at the Boise Bicycle Project. Candidates engaged with our moderator Kathy Griesmyer, Policy Director from the ACLU of Idaho, over a list of questions developed by the groups collectively. You can watch the lively exchange and hear from your candidates by watching our live Facebook feed from the forum.
After the forum, all of the candidates were invited to participate in a written questioner. This gave each of the candidates time to reflect upon the issues and provide a more comprehensive answer. Seven of the candidates participated in the Candidate Questioner (click to view and download). We invite you to learn more about the issues and candidtes by reviewing the questioner.
City Leadership on Tough Issues
We are sure you have noticed the very public role ciites have played over the last few months. It could have been Pistburg's response the President Trump's withdrawl of the U.S. of America from the Paris Climate Accord, or cities across the country vowing to protect the immigrant members of their community.
As we move forward on work in each of the issue areas outlined in the forum, leadership at the city level is critical to ensure that everyone is our community can thrive. Whether we are looking at community policing practices or decisions around energy planning for the future, cities around the country are driving change in ways that are aggressively working towards a more progressive and resilient communituy.
We invite you to check out the incredbile nonprofits driving work on these issues in Boise. To learn more about any of our partners, head to their website and find out how you can get involved.
