Service, Stewardship, and Advocacy

Road crew hiding a road.

The CA/NV Wilderness Committee sponsors stewardship and wilderness study outings. These include service trips to wilderness and wild lands in California and Nevada to work with public land managers on maintenance and improvement projects. This has included building new trails and eliminating illegal camps on public lands in the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). We also attend conferences in order further our understanding of wilderness management and network with interested parties such as tribal entities, environmental/conservation organizations, and federal, state, and local land managers. The Outings Chairperson is Anne Henny, a Sierra Club trained outings leader with backcountry certification. If you’re interested in attending a service trip contact Anne.

Upcoming Events

Our National Public Lands Day project with the BLM will be held on Saturday, September 28th. We will be placing signs at key entry point to mark the boundaries of the Basin and Range National Monument. We anticipate that the project will take a few hours to complete and be similar to last year's project. The location of the signs requires our base of operations to be on the other side of the monument as last year. It will be right on the boundary of the Worthington Wilderness.

Our tentative schedule is that we'll be gathering at camp on Friday and participating in the service event Saturday morning. That leaves plenty of time for exploring the Monument and perhaps we can organize a hike for Sunday. Vicky will be organizing the Commissary for meals.

More detailed information to come and that will include directions on how to get there, a map, what to bring, etc.

Some of our recent events include:
Bodie Hills/Mono Lake 30x30 Advocacy Outing
