Clayton County MARTA Expansion a Victory for Transit, People and Connected Communities

Clayton County Inaugural Bus Ride

Slideshow: Georgia Chapter Chair, David Emory; former Chapter Director, Colleen Kiernan; and Chapter Assistant Director, Brionté McCorkle joined members of the Friends of Clayton Transit Coalition on the first MARTA bus departing from College Park MARTA station to Clayton County in March 2015.

The Georgia Chapter of the Sierra Club applauded as Clayton County citizens voted overwhelming to join MARTA by at least 74 percent, marking what will be the first jurisdictional expansion of the transit system since its inception more than 40 years ago. The vote approved a 1% sales tax that will generate at least $45 million annually for 33 years, making this the largest new funding commitment to transportation in the Metro Atlanta region since MARTA was first approved in 1971.

Get Involved!

Our work is not done in Clayton; we want to be sure MARTA is in the best position to succeed at rolling out service. The best way to get involved is to begin regularly attending RAIL Committee meetings. This committee meets regularly on the fourth Monday of each month. Please visit our RAIL Committee page for more information >>

If you have questions or would like to get involved, please contact Brionté McCorkle.
