In the Sierra Club, we define “grassroots organizing” as the process of identifying, training, and empowering large numbers of citizen activists to get involved in the political struggle to protect America’s environment. Join us for a workshop led by Sierra Club organizers! Participants will engage in discussion and activities on power, strategy, and movement building.
Training #1 - Introduction to Activism
SATURDAY, MAY 6, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Participants will leave this training ready to:
- Articulate your personal stake in combating threats to our environment
- Understand the influence of big, organized money and how people can come together to challenge these oppressive forces and build a just, sustainable society
- Identify as members of the environmental movement
Training #2 - Power: How to Build It, How to Use It
SATURDAY, JUNE 10, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Participants will leave ready to:
- Create very clear, measurable campaign goals and outcomes
- Accurately identify campaign targets (who has the power to grant your goals) and a strategy to influence them
- Determine which tactics will engage large numbers of people in organized ways to put pressure on targets to grand your demands
Training #3 - #SquadGoals: Building Your Team
SATURDAY, JULY 8, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Participants will leave ready to:
- Use your talents and skills to become active, productive members on Georgia Chapter issue committees and other Chapter teams
- Understand how to build team structures that are effective
- Recruit other volunteers to participate in organizing activites, and potentially join an issue committee or other team
Training #4 - All Hands on Deck: Building Inclusive Movement
SATURDAY, AUGUST 12, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Participants will leave ready to:
- Define the terms Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and understand why this work is important to the Club
- Develop a more intentional and inclusive outreach plan through thorough community mapping
- Identify practices for initiating and developing effective partnerships with new communities
