The new year is coming, and so is the 2022 Legislative Session. The Georgia Legislative Session is one of the best ways for folks to get involved in helping to pass state laws that advance climate action! Does the thought of having a phone call with your state lawmaker fill you with dread? Do you want to help pass laws that will address the threat of climate change but don’t know where to start?
We’re here to help!
The Sierra Club Georgia Chapter’s Legislative Liaisons program is designed to make it easier for volunteers to make connections with their state lawmakers. History has convincingly shown that repeated conversations and relationship building with legislators can result in major improvements in legislators’ voting records on protecting the environment, and, in many cases, even develop new leaders for our efforts in Georgia.
We understand talking with your lawmaker for the first (or the fifth!) time can be daunting, so let us help set you up for a successful conversation! We’ll give you information and fact sheets to help you stay informed, offer trainings to gain new or sharpen existing lobbying skills, and give you anything else you need to confidently meet with your elected representatives.
You’ll also connect with your fellow liaisons to celebrate wins, learn from losses, and most importantly, grow together as a community.
If you decide to become a Legislative Liaison, the Georgia Chapter is committed to giving you enough support to make this a rewarding experience for you (We hope one of your best experiences ever!). We have great opportunities in the next several years to move the environmental agenda forward in Georgia. With your help, 2022 will be a year in which we see victories on all the issues we care about — pure air and water, environmental justice, clean energy, protecting our beautiful lands, and so much more!
