For years the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust was given the task of planning a VK Musem that would tell the story of our county's segregated beach. As of 2022, the Miami City commission has removed members of the and decided that they should plan the museum. So far, nothing has happened. In the meantime, the commissioners decided to close the Virginia Key Outdoor Center. Then they approved adding a boat ramp to the Miami Marine Stadium basin, which will result in many changes to how that portion of Virginia Key is used. They have still not floated new bonds to finance the Marine Stadium restoration and flex park, and of course the longer it is closed, the more difficult the restoration will be. The Marine Stadium basin has also seen the completion of a basin perimeter trail, with native trees planted along the path, which will allow for removal of some of the invasive species that found a home there.
