Sierra Club and ACLU Challenge Trump's Fraudulent Emergency Declaration

The Sierra Club teamed up with the ACLU to file a federal lawsuit challenging Donald Trump's national emergency declaration.

Tuesday, February 19, 2019: Trump's declaration attempts to override Congress' express decision to restrict the funding available for border wall construction. Our lawsuit challenges Trump's action as a blatant violation of the U.S. Constitution, the National Environmental Policy Act, and several other federal laws. The U.S.-Mexico border is a jewel of riparian and desert ecosystems that will be ravaged by construction of the wall and its related infrastructure (roads, lighting etc.). Sierra Club members and border communities use and enjoy these outdoor areas extensively, and we bring this action on their behalf, and for the sanctity of the U.S. Constitution.
