Keeper Restores Blair Mountain Battlefield Site to National Register of Historic Places after Years of Legal Action by Coalition

June 29, 2018: Peter Morgan, Jessica Yarnall Loarie, and Aaron Isherwood with Sierra Club's Environmental Law Program (ELP) have been instrumental in the legal fight to secure the Blair Mountain Battlefield's listing on the National Register of Historic Places. ELP lawyers appeared before the US District Court and the Court of Appeals to oppose the National Park Service's erroneous 2009 decision to remove the Battlefield from the National Register.

Ensuring that the Battlefield remains listed on the National Register is important because it preserves an important part of our nation's labor history, and because the site was targeted for destructive mountaintop removal coal mining by multiple mines.
