The Florida Panther is on the Verge of Extinction - ELP Attorneys Fight for its Survival

November 28, 2018: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has given notice of a Habitat Conservation Plan for the endangered Florida panther that would permit 45,000 acres of residential and commercial development in primary panther habitat, which would lead to approximately 90,000 residences and road-building for well over 100,000 additional vehicles where the number one cause of panther deaths is vehicle collisions. Sierra Club Environmental Law Program attorneys Eric Huber and Karimah Schoenhut are working with a coalition of national and local environmental groups and panther expert biologists to submit technical and legal comments against this ill-conceived plan and preparing to take legal action if and when the Fish and Wildlife Service issues its final approval. The Florida panther is on the verge of extinction; we are fighting for its very survival in the wild.
