Emily Ford - Thru-hiking the Ice Age Trail
October 7, 6:30 pm (online)
The Wisconsin Chapter is hosting an Environmental Justice Series, and on October 7 the Four Lakes Group will co-sponsor a presentation by Emily Ford, the first Black woman to thru-hike the Ice Age Trail. She will be speaking on race and outdoor education. This is linked to the Four Lakes Group’s Land Equity Access campaign to provide better access to outdoor recreation opportunities for everyone regardless of race, gender or abilities.
Other than a four-legged companion, Emily accomplished her hike solo during a very cold stretch of Wisconsin winter, and completed her 69-day hike on March 6, 2021. She’ll have fascinating stories to tell about her adventure, as well as can provide a good perspective on recreation opportunities and experiences as a Black woman.
