Annual Sierra Club Western Slope Group Election

Our Group election starts Dec. 2, 2024. Voting is for our 4 executive committee members. These are 4 of the 7 Excom members that decide what our group will do each year. If you are a Sierra Club member, you should get an e-mail or a postcard ballot in the mail. This needs to be sent back with your vote by the end of December. Candidates will have their photos and bios online, either on your member e-mail or on the Colorado State Chapter website. You can also vote there if you have your Sierra Club member number.

Earth Hour Radio Show

Join us on every first Wednesday of the month, 12:15 PM, KAFM (88.1 in Grand Junction) for the Earth Hour Radio Show, where members of our group interview local community activists about their efforts to help make this a sustainable planet.

Here is the link to a 15 minute radio show where Fresh Cafe Host Rhonda Dunlap interviews our Western Slope Sierra Club Chair Janet Wyatt on Friday, May 3rd, 2024:

Progress on our Kiosks!

This will be in the Sierra Club's Colorado Chapter's latest newsletter Peak and Prairie:

The Colorado Sierra Club's Western Slope Group has worked closely with the BLM and an artist for the past three years to design and install two, three-paneled, roofed educational kiosks at local trailheads. The first kiosk has been completed and educates locals and visitors about prairie dogs and their importance in our ecosystem. A small gathering was held at the site in June celebrating the completion of the project, and the local news station covered the story!

Janet Wyatt, Group Chair, shared "We are so proud of this accomplishment and how we will be educating the public on our public lands. Sometimes it is a slow process getting a worthy cause across the finish line, but we did it!"

The second kiosk  focuses on desert riparian habitat and is installed in Rabbit Valley at the MacDonald Creek Trailhead. More information about this kiosk is in the Projects/Blog section of this website.
