Clean Air & Climate Action: It's Time for WMATA To Go 100% Electric
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) operates the sixth largest bus fleet in the United States. It needs to go electric so that all of us can breathe easier.
An analysis from the Sierra Club and 17 partner organizations calls on WMATA to commit to 100% electrification of its transit bus fleet by 2045, or sooner, and to take immediate steps toward achieving that goal. The report has several specific recommendations for the transit agency and lies out the public health, climate, and cost-savings benefits of an all-electric fleet.
CAMPAIGN UPDATE: In June 2021, WMATA committed to electrifying by 2045! Local advocates and elected officials are urging the agency to move quicker.
