Where Laws are Carried Out
State agencies, departments and boards are responsible for carrying out many of the laws that the legislature makes. Two agencies in particular are responsible for a range of environmental issues, the Natural Resources Agency and the California Environmental Protection Agency.
Sierra Club California staff and volunteers track the actions of the agencies and the departments and boards that work within them. We comment on regulations and policies being developed that will affect the environment and try to make sure California’s goals for clean air, clean water, accessible coastlines, and healthy forests and wild lands are met.
What’s Happening Now
Agency action often moves at a slow and deliberate pace. As a result, our staff and volunteers can spend many years tracking and influencing the implementation of an important regulation or policy to protect the environment and public health.
When a particular issue has reached a point that needs overt action, we post information here, so check this page periodically.
