Third and Fourth graders from PS 241 camped out at Schiff Nature Preserve in Mendham, NJ June 10-11. Cat Rock leaders Egda Ronquillo and Richard Rodriguez taught students about Leave No Trace and modeled expedition behavior. The weather was glorious. We took a long hike and splashed around in the river, put up and slept in tents, cooked cinnamon rolls in the campfire and ate S’mores. Lots of laughing and running. Honeysuckle tasting and beautiful smelling flowers galore. On our hike, Thaden said ‘We’re in a flower cave.’ Then later at camp he said ‘We’re in a tree cave.’ It was a wonderful weekend that created some beautiful memories. So glad these kids have another year or two to create more outdoor memories before they graduate from fifth grade.
