In a record-breaking trip for the MS 126 / NYC ICO / Sophie Gerson Healthy Youth partnership, a total of 73 students showed up on the morning of Saturday, January 28th for a day of ice skating, hiking, and taking in time with friends and nature at Bear Mountain State Park. With the ambitious energy of our school representative, Coach D, and the coordination of our amazing NYC ICO volunteers, MK, Sandhya, and Stephanie, every single student in this impressive group was able to share in an amazing winter experience that included a hot lunch in the Bear Mountain Lodge, time on the ice with their friends and the MS 126 Hockey Club coach, Mr. Gavin, and a guided hike through the Bear Mountain wilderness. Icy conditions, both in the rink and on the trail, provided a good taste of challenge that each student was able to approach, and surmount, on their own terms. Seeing such a large number of young explorers confront and overcome their fears was an inspiring experience that could not have been possible without the support and leadership of all involved. I can guarantee you the youth appreciate it.
