It's been a busy couple of weeks for clean transportation, with back to back Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) hearings on cleaner cars, trucks, and buses!
Following a powerful hearing on #CleanerTrucks, communities showed up the next week to urge the EPA to also adopt a strong EPA #CleanerCars standard to clean up our air and take necessary climate action on a cornerstone climate policy.
As Sierra Club Volunteer Angelle Bradford said:
"A few years ago, I bought my first car and my goal was to find a vehicle that was affordable and good for the environment. I asked auto dealer after auto dealer: Why is it so difficult to purchase electric cars in Louisiana?
Simply put: there is no incentive for automakers to invest here. Leaders in Louisiana have resisted policies that support cleaner cars, essentially blocking any attempts to cut tailpipe pollution and address the climate crisis.
In my state, our communities see climate change first hand and yet we are very behind in getting Louisianans driving cleaner cars. And this is unfortunately the case in many parts of the country."
Didn't get to testify? You can join thousands of others in taking action online and tell the EPA why this cleaning up transportation pollution matters to you and your family!
Here's a snippet of live-tweeting we did during the hearing:
What comes out of a car tailpipe is hazardous. 😷

What we stand to gain from the US @EPA finalizing a strong #CleanerCars standard is enormous.
Healthier communities, less trips to the hospital/doctor, less suffering from asthma. #RouteZero ⚡️ pic.twitter.com/WfUbdc62hY
Listening to the 10 lane highway near my house (essentially, when you count the 4 equally as busy service lanes) as a motivation before testifying for stronger pollution reduction from new car sales!! @EPAMichaelRegan #cleanercars #routezero pic.twitter.com/h9nDsOVKti

Climate change is not an abstract concept. Our communities feel its impacts every day.

Cleaner air for all and for generations to come.#CleanerCars #RouteZero pic.twitter.com/bZdyOfUmHy
I just asked @EPA to finalize the strongest possible #CleanerCars standards. Millions of Americans live, work, and play near highways, where vehicle exhaust is inescapable. Reducing tailpipe emissions could make a tremendous difference, both for our planet and our lungs. 🚗🌎👩👩👧👦 pic.twitter.com/wyRjrzd0LO

Today, I participated in @EPA’s hearing to support stronger national emission standards that will reduce #AirPollution. The update will be a win for the environment, for our communities & for the economy. https://t.co/GpacYSW8Yq

It is two-fer Tuesday. I just urged @EPA to strengthen #cleanercar standards esp. for particulate matter as the fleet transitions to zero emission vehicles. #LungCancerActionWeek pic.twitter.com/uaIdvOgAv3
