As we have seen over and over during the COVID-19 pandemic, Americans turned to nature and wildlife as a necessary balm for our mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Humanity's health is completely dependent on functioning natural systems, including a full component of native plants and wildlife.
Those systems are unraveling due to the interconnected climate and biodiversity crises, and the effects are being felt by countless species. Now we have an unprecedented opportunity before us to make a major investment in recovering and conserving America's wildlife.
That’s why I am asking you to join me in supporting the Recovering America's Wildlife Act.
The bipartisan Recovering America's Wildlife Act would create dedicated, annual funding of $1.4 billion to supplement current and future wildlife and habitat conservation and recovery efforts. This once-in-a-generation level of funding would give states, territories, and Tribal nations increased ability to protect and recover endangered, threatened, and imperiled wildlife in conjunction with new funding streams for federal wildlife management programs.
This funding is especially important for Tribal nations' ability to manage wildlife on their sovereign lands, closing the funding gap that has historically existed between federal, state, and tribal wildlife management agencies. Many Tribes have been at the forefront of wildlife conservation efforts including the protection of the grizzly bear, gray wolf, and other species.
It's essential that we pass legislation to protect species across the country. Contact your legislators today and ask them to vote yes on the Recovering America's Wildlife Act.
