Dozens of wildfires are raging throughout the West. Floods are devastating parts of Europe. Extreme and deadly record-breaking heat has overwhelmed the Pacific Northwest. Within just five weeks of the official hurricane season, the Gulf Coast and East Coast have already endured five named storms.
We're living in the climate crisis and it's getting more intense. Then there's the crisis of our democracy. Following January’s violent insurrection on the Capitol, at least a dozen states have passed laws making it harder for people to vote, a backlash to the record turnout of the last election.
What's the answer to all of this? We get organized. For months, the Sierra Club has been preparing and planning for this moment. We believe that change is powered by people -- that this country belongs to all of us, and we hold the power to create a future where we all can thrive. We need all hands on deck for our Summer of Collective Action to pressure Congress to fulfill their duty by building back bolder and restoring the unmet promises of our democracy.

Right now, Congress has the opportunity to confront the current crises by passing two pieces of legislation: an infrastructure package to tackle the climate crisis, create jobs, and address racial injustice; and bold democracy reforms like the For the People Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. But Congress won't do it on their own.
This August Recess, when our members of Congress are back home to hear from their constituents, we’ll make it clear that we will accept nothing less than a fully functioning democracy and an economy that sustains both people and the planet.
On Tuesday's Kickoff Call, we’ll share updates on what’s moving in Congress and how this legislation could shape our communities for decades to come. We'll hear from exciting speakers to envision what it will take to build a world where all people have what they need to survive and thrive.
