Joe Biden knows what it takes to build back better. This is why we must elect him on November 3.
With Donald Trump in the White House, our economy has been decimated by a mismanaged pandemic. Communities that are already hardest hit by pollution and the climate crisis are most vulnerable. In his time in office, Donald Trump has, time and again, put the profits of fossil fuel company executives and Wall Street ahead of protecting the air, water, and livelihoods of people on Main Street. Trump’s refusal to acknowledge the scientific reality of climate change and his prioritization of the desires of fossil fuel lobbyists over the best interests of the American people have left communities to face the effects of the climate crisis -- more devastating wildfires, worsened floods, and more destructive hurricanes -- and a pandemic with little hope for relief.
Donald Trump calls the climate crisis a hoax. He rejects science. This is a failure of leadership that has put our planet and communities in harm's way.
The Sierra Club is proud to support Joe Biden because he understands the existential threat of the climate crisis. He follows science. He has a bold vision to ensure a liveable future for our children and create family sustaining jobs in a clean energy economy.
Biden’s Scranton, Pennsylvania, roots, early years in Claremont, Delaware, and years of public service have given him a deep understanding of the many challenges facing working families, including those hit hard by pollution and the climate crisis. In the Senate, and as vice president, he led efforts to take on climate change, revitalize America’s economy during times of need, and ensure the people’s interest prevailed. This experience forms the cornerstone for his plan to build back better.
Biden is also a proven champion for job creation, having managed the successful recovery following the economic crisis of 2007-2008, and he will do it again should he be elected president. Biden’s “Build Back Better” agenda will put American workers and American innovation in clean energy back in motion by investing $2 trillion to kick off a national clean energy revolution and give workers and families a leg up.
The Biden-Harris Clean Energy Plan would move America toward a net-zero emission economy and create good, family-sustaining jobs, because he understands that we don’t have to choose between environmental protection and the creation of good jobs. More than three million people are employed in the clean energy economy across the country already, and jobs in wind and solar are among the fastest growing; these jobs pay prevailing wages and are good jobs that provide stability, safety, and security for workers.
Across the country, Sierra Club organizers and volunteers are working to elect Joe Biden and other climate champion candidates who are focused on creating the clean and safe jobs of the future. A clean energy revolution is building momentum across the country. This November is our opportunity to make sure we vote for our health, safety, and environment.
