La política migratoria de la administración Trump se parece más y más al guión de una obra escrita por un sádico dramaturgo.
El Ejército y el Departamento de Seguridad Nacional (DHS) se apresuran a construir un centro de detención de familias inmigrantes en Fort Bliss, Texas, —un lugar infame por sus derrames tóxicos, almacenamiento de venenos químicos y munición sin explotar, según documentos obtenidos por Earthjustice por medio de la Ley de Libertad de Información.
La base contiene cuatro lugares supertóxicos, que incluyen metales pesados, compuestos orgánicos volátiles y contaminantes radiactivos. La exposición a estos venenos puede causar cáncer, daños neurológicos y trastornos de desarrollo. ¿A quién se le ocurre encerrar a familias con niños pequeños en un atroz lugar como este?
Les presento a Stephen Miller, actual asesor principal de Donald Trump en política migratoria, el arquitecto de la política de “tolerancia cero” y, según emails filtrados, un nacionalista blanco que detesta a comunidades hispanas y afroamericanas.
Los documentos filtrados al Centro Sureño Legal de Pobreza (SPLC) revelan 900 emails entre Miller y el sitio nacionalista blanco Breitbart News durante su periodo como asesor de la Campaña Electoral de Trump en 2016. En ellos, Miller promueve teorías de conspiraciones nacionalistas, y narrativas antiinmigrantes y antimusulmanas.
Su propio tío, David S. Glosser, rechaza la línea migratoria dura de su sobrino y públicamente le recuerda que su familia judía escapó persecución o peor en Europa gracias a la generosidad que ahora él niega a otras personas en situaciones muy similares.
Las consecuencias de esta mentalidad cruel y racista son desgarradoras. Una investigación de Associated Press (AP) y la Televisión Pública (PBS) reveló que este año la administración Trump ha retenido en custodia a 70.000 niños inmigrantes, causando daños psicológicos irreversibles en muchos de ellos.
El informe se centra en una niña hondureña de 3 años de edad que llegó a la frontera en brazos de su padre, quien solicitó asilo. Agrega que tras ser separada a la fuerza, sufrir abusos sexuales bajo la custodia de funcionarios federales, y ser deportada y devuelta a su familia, la niña sufre ahora una profunda depresión y acusa a su padre de haberla abandonado.
El reportero de AP Frank Bajak tuiteó sobre el trabajo de sus colegas que, “Ningún otro país ha retenido tantos niños inmigrantes este año como Estados Unidos —69.550. Las cicatrices psicológicas y emocionales son profundas”.
Recuerde que esta vergüenza nacional se lleva a cabo en nombre de todo el país —ante los ojos atónitos del resto del mundo civilizado— tan abiertamente como los trapicheos de la administración a la hora de construir el muro fronterizo.
La compañía Fisher Land & Gravel logró un contrato de $400 millones para construir parte del muro fronterizo tras que Trump personal y repetidamente recomendara que lo consiguiera. El Cuerpo de Ingenieros del Ejército, el ente que otorga estos contratos, había rechazado la propuesta de Fisher por considerar que no cumplía con los requisitos necesarios.
El dudoso contrato de Fisher, que ya ha atraído la atención de investigadores en el Congreso, incluye la construcción de 31 millas de barreras en terrenos del Refugio de Vida Silvestre de Cabeza Prieta, Arizona, lo que empeorará aún más los catastróficos e irreparables daños que este muro racista está causando en los terrenos fronterizos.

The Army and the Department of Homeland Security are rushing to build a detention facility for immigrant families in Fort Bliss, Texas—a base infamous for its toxic spills and storage of chemical poisons and unexploded munitions, according to documents obtained by Earthjustice through the Freedom of Information Act.
The base houses four Superfund sites, which are contaminated by heavy metals, volatile organic compounds, and radioactive materials. Exposure to these toxins can cause cancer, neurological damage, and developmental disorders. Who would come up with the idea of detaining families with young children in such a dreadful place?
Meet Stephen Miller, Donald Trump’s senior immigration advisor, the architect of the “zero tolerance” policy and, according to leaked emails, a white nationalist who detests the Latino and African American communities.
The documents leaked to the Southern Poverty Law Center contain 900 emails between Miller, who is Jewish, and the white nationalist website Breitbart News during his period as a senior advisor to the Trump campaign in 2016. In those, Miller promotes white nationalist conspiracy theories and supports anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim narratives.

The consequences of this cruel and racist mentality are heartbreaking. An investigation by the Associated Press and PBS revealed that this year, the Trump administration has detained nearly 70,000 immigrant kids, causing irreversible psychological damage to many of them.
The report focuses on a three-year-old Honduran girl who arrived at the border in the arms of her father, who then applied for asylum. It adds that after being forcefully separated from him, suffering sexual abuse while in the custody of federal officials, and being deported and returned to Honduras, the child now suffers profound depression and accuses her father of abandoning her.
AP reporter Frank Bajak tweeted about his colleagues’ work saying, “No other country held as many immigrant children in detention over the past year as the United States—69,550. The physical and emotional scars are profound."
This national disgrace is being conducted on behalf of the whole country—in front of the astounded eyes of the rest of the civilized world—as openly as the administration’s scheming efforts to build the wall.
The company Fisher Land & Gravel got a $400-million contract to build part of the wall after Trump personally and repeatedly recommended that they obtain it. The Army Corps of Engineers—the entity in charge of granting the contracts—had rejected Fisher’s proposal, ruling it did not meet standards.
Fisher’s dubious contract, which has already triggered calls for investigation in Congress, stipulates the construction of 31 miles of new barriers in the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge, Arizona, which would exacerbate even further the catastrophic and irreparable damages this racist project has already inflicted on the borderlands.
Whether these structures are new or reinforcements of existing ones, the level of devastation is staggering, causing flooding and erosion, blocking migration routes of endangered species, and destroying landscapes that for millennia have harbored some of the richest habitats in North America.
When hatred and corruption partner to dictate a nation’s immigration policy, the result can exceed the imagination of the cruelest playwright.
