- Huntington Beach Votes to end offshore drilling - Oct 19, 2021 It was a long but productive night at the Huntington Beach City Council meeting last night. In a midnight vote the council voted 5-1 to approve a resolution the support an end to new offshore oil leasing and drilling. The Sierra Club was there to speak in support of the resolution. The council members that supported the resolution stated that this was just a first step and that the city needs to explore taking further steps to reduce the footprint of the oil industry in the city both by increasing the use of renewable energy and decommissioning existing oil operations. We commend them on this important step.
