Wild and Scenic Film Festival in Huntsville, Saturday, January 11
The Alabama Rivers Alliance, Energy Alabama, and Flint River Conservation Association (FRCA) are proud to bring the Wild & Scenic Film Festival to Huntsville for the sixth year! The festival will be January 11, 2020 at Straight to Ale!
Join us for an evening of celebrating the great outdoors through film that will leave you feeling inspired and engaged. The program will feature short films and documentaries highlighting adventures to be had as well as important issues to be addressed. Experts from across the state will be on hand to help answer any questions and provide guidance on how you can get involved locally and throughout Alabama. Plus, we’ll have door prizes! Each ticket includes a membership to Alabama Rivers Alliance.

2020 Alabama Recreational Trails Conference, February 6-7
This conference is intended for recreational trail operators and user groups and will highlight case studies demonstrating best practices in recreational trail project planning, management, construction, and maintenance. A fun and informative gathering for those who plan, develop and manage recreational trails in Alabama.
Wednesday, Feb. 5 - Activities include outdoor Mobile workshops, Gulf State Park trails bicycle tour, Orange Beach Canoe Trail tour, or you can explore the Hugh Branyon Backcountry Trail & Bon Secour NWR by bike and by foot.
Thursday, Feb. 6, and Friday, Feb. 7 - Trails Conference.

Hike Ratings
Easy - Less than 5 miles, no serious elevation changes, no trail obstacles.
Moderate - 5 to 10 miles, some elevation changes or rough trail (rock hopping), or trail obstacles such as creek crossings.
Strenuous - Over 10 miles, substantial elevation change, rocky, obstructed or nonexistent trail.
Exploratory - any event where the leader has not experienced the event; may fit any class above.
Note. Participants of Sierra Club outings are required to sign a waiver.
Saturday, January 11 - Wade Mountain hike. Moderate.
Join us for a moderate, 8-mile hike on the Land Trust’s Wade Mountain property in North Huntsville. We will climb to the Devil’s Racetrack and cover many of the trails on the mountain. There are some short, steep climbs over uneven and rocky trails and about 600 ft. of elevation gain. Dress for the weather, including sturdy shoes. Bring a camera, water, snacks and some cash for the Land Trust if you are not a member. We will meet at 10130 Spragins Hollow Rd NW, Huntsville, AL 35810 at 8:30am. The hike leaves at 9:00am sharp. Sunday, January 12. Green Mountain Hike. Easy.
Kirsten will be leading a hike on the beautiful trails in Green Mountain Nature Preserve in South Huntsville. These trails have a variety of features, waterfalls, ancient human habitation sites, interesting geology and river views. This will be a fairly easy hike of about 3 miles with about 200 ft. of elevation gain. There are some short, steep climbs over uneven and rocky trails. Dress for the weather, including sturdy shoes. Bring a camera, water, snacks and some cash for the Land Trust if you are not a member. We will meet at 13800 South Shawdee Road, Huntsville, AL 35803 at 8:30am. The hike leaves at 9:00am sharp. Saturday, January 18 - Sewanee Perimeter Trail Hike. Strenuous.
Join Vickie for a hike along the rim of a beautiful canyon near Sewanee, TN. Meet at 7:00am in the parking lot of the Hazelgreen Walmart - 14595 US-231, Hazel Green, AL 35750. We will caravan from there to trailhead This hike will be about 14 miles, with 1378 ft. of elevation. Rain and freezing weather will cancel this hike. Dress for the weather, wear sturdy hike appropriate footwear, bring headlamps just in case, water, snacks, and/or pizza. This hike is not suitable for young children. Well behaved dogs capable of hiking 14+ miles are welcome but must be leashed. The drive-time to get to the trailhead is a little over an hour.
