As election officials and the media continue sifting through the results of the 2020 election, the Alabama Chapter of the Sierra Club looks forward to fostering a spirit of collaboration toward common goals protecting public health and preserving Alabama’s natural wonders. Much of the attention in the election has been on the national races and debates. Now that the election is over, the Alabama Sierra Club looks forward to focusing on state and local issues.
After this year’s election, there is reason to be hopeful. In the past few years, membership in the Alabama Sierra Club has more than doubled. Over 27,000 people have signed up for our mailing list, and hundreds of election volunteers working on national Sierra Club campaigns will be available for state and local campaigns.
In elections we focus on differences of opinion. This is part of a healthy democracy where ideas are discussed and voters decide which ideas they support. After the polls close and the results are in, it is time to come together and focus on what we share in common and how we can work together.
All Alabamians want clean air and clean water. All Alabamians want to preserve our mountains, rivers, and coastline. Love for the outdoors is shared among all people of every political affiliation. Alabama is a place where people come together for these common values.
To ensure that these values are realized, the Alabama Sierra Club is dedicated to work with people from all walks of life and diverse perspectives to find common ground. We are confident that by fostering and upholding Alabama’s highest ideals that we will be successful in our mission to explore, enjoy, and protect.
