Joi previously served as the Alabama Chapter Vice Chair and joined the leadership team as the State Compliance Officer. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Joi holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Alabama State University and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Auburn University in Montgomery. Joi later obtained a Juris Doctor Degree from Birmingham School of Law and a Certificate of Completion from My Real Estate School. In 2017, Joi became licensed to practice law in Alabama and launched Travis Law, LLC, which is a general practice law firm with its headquarters located in Birmingham, Alabama.

Joi is also a graduate of both the Ray Miller Institute for Change & Leadership and the Center for Progressive Leadership Political Fellowship Program.

In a recent statement Joi commented that, “All my life, I have found myself advocating for underserved communities while involving myself with campaigns to help dismantle the egregious disparities that exist in our political, environmental, and educational arenas. Ever since I could talk, I’ve been asking people of all ages, races, and socio-economic backgrounds if they are registered to vote. My mother has exposed me to trainings, rallies, meetings and other opportunities to ensure I have an appreciation for the power in organizing.”

She continues the work her mother started. “I can vividly remember the day my mother told me she had an interview with the Sierra Club, I was so excited for her because I understood the influence that this prestigious organization had on communities in regards to environmental justice,” said Joi.

In a statement, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune said “Joi has dedicated her life to fighting for racial and environmental justice, and Sierra Club is thrilled to see her continue that work as Alabama Chapter Chair.”
