Join Coosa Riverkeeper and conservation groups around the state for the Gaston Steam Plant Public Hearing on Thursday, January 9th at 6 PM at Shelby County High School Auditorium in Columbiana, AL.
If you love Lay Lake, the Coosa, or any of Alabama's waterways--- this is your opportunity to make your voice heard to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management and Alabama Power Company.
This hearing is for the steam plant's National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit that specifically regulates the amount of wastewater discharge from the plant including: stormwater, coal ash pond (that APCO's self-reported data shows is contaminating groundwater), gypsum pond, cooling towers discharge, etc.... and what toxins they can discharge into river and in what amount!
Please invite your friends, tag a fellow Layke lover, and any local residents! You can learn more at CoosaRiver.org/Gaston-Steam-Plant-Public-Hearing! More information will be shared in the coming weeks.
