Continuing the momentum and building on last year's event, we chose the date of Friday, September 20th, for Rise for Climate Mobile Bay to avoid an Alabama football Saturday and because September 20th coincides with the United Nations Climate Action Summit weekend. We have again reserved the Bienville Square venue with the City of Mobile.
It has been projected that Bienville Square in Downtown Mobile will be 10+ feet under water as a result of sea level rise.
Climatically speaking, the inspirational speeches will all be limited to 5 minutes and will continue throughout the event from the bandstand.Rise For Climate Mobile Bay is coordinated by Mobile Bay Sierra Club and MEJAC (Mobile Environmental Justice Action Coalition). Our goal is to bring residents from the Mobile and Baldwin County communities together to give them inspiration about what can be done locally to prepare our coastal area for the impacts of climate change and how to transition our state off of fossil fuels into renewable energy resources, while producing a sustainable positive growth economy.
