A Threat to the Integrity of our Drinking Water Supply: Cahaba Beach Road Expansion

From the Cahaba River Society

Shelby County and the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) are proposing to expand Cahaba Beach Road from Highway 280 to Sicard Hollow Road.  They will offer a Public Involvement Meeting where they present their alternatives for the location of the road and hear public comments about the proposal.

Please save this date and attend this important meeting about the future of our drinking water supply:

Tuesday, October 17, 2017
Liberty Park Middle School Cafeteria
17035 Liberty Parkway
Vestavia Hills, Alabama  35242

You will have an opportunity to submit comments to ALDOT regarding this road until November 1, 2017.  The Cahaba River Society will send more info, talking points and how to comment soon. We are very concerned that this project would facilitate development within the heart of the drinking water watershed, possibly the least appropriate location to focus development activities in the entire Cahaba watershed.

The Cahaba River Society, the affected landowners, and other environmental groups want to see that ALDOT has demonstrated a need for this project and made a thorough environmental study of its potential impacts.  We will be looking for a thorough accounting of cumulative and indirect impacts because potential degradation of our drinking water supply affects us all.
