Kittatinny Group

The Kittatinny Group has nearly 1,100 members. We serve as the local group for the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Sierra Club in Berks and Schuylkill Counties.

We are part of the state-wide organization that is directed by an all-volunteer executive committee. The state chapter employs a full-time lobbyist in Harrisburg, who advocates on behalf of the Pennsylvania Chapter’s nearly 35,000 members and supporters. The chapter also includes more than a dozen volunteer issue committees that engage in research, education and advocacy.

The Kittatinny Group of the PA Sierra Club serves Berks and Schuylkill Counties.  A membership-elected executive committee (ExCom) of seven members leads the Kittatinny Group, and meets 4 times a year. Any person in good standing as a Sierra Club member may be a candidate for election to the ExCom. A nominating committee considers prospective nominees and submits a slate of candidates to the membership on a ballot available to members annually, by December 1st.

Become a Group Volunteer Leader

Are you interested in making a difference?

As a Sierra Club member, you have a unique opportunity to step up and make that difference by becoming a leader in Berks/Schuylkill County’s largest volunteer led environmental organization. Now is the time to nominate yourself or someone you think would be interested in serving on the Kittatinny Group’s Executive Committee (ExCom).

Reach out to Kittatinny Group secretary Paul Eaken at:  paul.eaken@gmail.com

Committee members organize Club events and engage in advocacy efforts – advancing our environmental priorities.  We promote environmental protection and education, endorse and support political candidates who share our concern for the environment, and coordinate activities and outings that allow us to explore and enjoy our natural world.

Volunteer leaders spend a few hours of their time each month supporting the group by chairing various standing committees, such as: website design and editing, political endorsements, outings, conservation and member support.
