The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WISDOT) plans to expand I-94 between the Zoo and Marquette Interchanges in a way that could lead to further cuts in bus service and local road repair funding, displace homes and businesses, and cost taxpayers up to $1 billion.
WISDOT just finished the Environmental Impact Statement for the I-94 expansion and are preparing to allow the expansion to move forward. This highway expansion, however, is not the solution that the community or the environment needs. Because of this, at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, March 30 at the Hunger Task Force, community leaders and residents are gathering to demand that WISDOT provides a transportation future for Milwaukee that will connect people to jobs, businesses and services; be safe, effective and affordable for drivers and non-drivers; and address real community needs for better transportation.
State Representative Daniel Riemer and other elected officials, the Coalition for More Responsible Transportation, and members of the community will be gathering to tell WISDOT not to expand I-94, but to instead invest in real, community-based solutions.
We invite you to join us at this community forum.

A stronger transit system not only provides reliable transportation for people of all backgrounds, but it also decreases car culture and the associated carbon emissions. Because of this, Sierra Club is a proud member of the Coalition for More Responsible Transportation (CMRT).
