Our Mission

- Practice and promote the responsible use of the earth’s ecosystems and resources
- Educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment
- Use all lawful means to carry out these objectives
Priority Issues
- Enact 5 cents plastic bag tax -Contact your Mayor and City Council!
- Advocate for Dark Sky initiatives and proper outdoor lighting
- Promote Conservation and energy efficiency
- Climate Change, Sea Level Rise and Recurrent Flooding: Reduce the threat through prevention, adaptation and mitigation.
- Support EPA Clean Power Plan and Promote Energy Efficiency to Reduce Fossil Fuel Use: Helps reduce climate change caused by CO2 emissions, reduces dependence on fossil fuels and mitigates impacts on public and environmental health.
- Clean, Renewable Energy/Solar & Offshore Wind, Oppose Offshore Drilling: Leave fossil fuels in the earth and rapidly convert to clean, renewable power generation.
- Beyond Coal and Fossil Fuels to Mitigate Climate Change and for Cleaner Air and Water : Let's work to close existing coal and gas powered plants, force Dominion and others to clean up existing coal ash sites, stop the export of coal and in the interim make Norfolk Southern and other transporters/exporters mitigate the release of fugitive coal dust.

Sierra Club Information
The Chesapeake Bay Group serves the cities of Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach, and the counties of Accomack and Northampton on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. CBG is one of nine Groups in the Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club. There are 64 Chapters in the National Sierra Club.
