A Poster For Every Park
Designer JP Boneyard’s new Fifty-Nine Parks Print Series highlights the unique beauty of each National Park
“This series aims to raise a little more awareness and enthusiasm for three of our favorite things—posters, printmaking, and national parks!” says JP Boneyard, the designer and curator behind the Fifty-Nine Parks Print Series. As the name suggests, the designer is aiming to produce 59 posters—one for each national park in the United States—at a rate of about two posters per month through the end of 2017. Boneyard says that, like most poster artists, he takes inspiration from the Depression-era posters produced by unemployed artists as part of President Roosevelt’s economy-boosting Work Projects Administration in the 1930s. “But the series isn't a throwback,” explains Boneyard. “Our goal is to do this in a fresh way that highlights the unique voice of each artist and the remarkable beauty of each park.”
Each park poster is screen-printed by hand in the United States and produced as part of Boneyard’s internationally traveling poster show, The National Poster Retrospecticus. A small portion of all profits from poster sales is donated to the National Park Service. To learn more, visit the Fifty-Nine Parks Print Series website.
