WASHINGTON, DC — Journalists are invited to attend a policy luncheon on industrial sector transformation hosted by the Sierra Club in partnership with the Bipartisan Policy Center, BlueGreen Alliance, Breakthrough Energy, and Securing America’s Future Energy (SAFE) — with remarks by Reps. Kathy Castor (D-FL), Suzan DelBene (D-WA), Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), and Ro Khanna (D-CA) — from 12-2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, in the Capitol Visitor Center.

The event will explore policy solutions to build a clean, competitive, and resilient U.S. industrial sector. Attendees will hear from leading voices on industrial innovation to discuss efforts that will drive global emissions reductions and boost domestic competitiveness.

The luncheon launches Sierra Club’s two-day legislative lobbying effort, in which 30 volunteers from key industrial states will travel to Washington, D.C. to meet with their legislators and advocate for the formation of a bipartisan Industrial Competitiveness and Innovation Caucus to draft legislation that will clean up and regenerate domestic manufacturing and hold the worst foreign polluters accountable.

WHAT: Policy luncheon on industrial sector transformation, hosted by the Sierra Club in partnership with the Bipartisan Policy Center, BlueGreen Alliance, Breakthrough Energy, and Securing America’s Future Energy (SAFE) — with remarks by Reps. Kathy Castor (D-FL), Suzan DelBene (D-WA), Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), and Ro Khanna (D-CA).

WHO: The event will include remarks by Reps. Kathy Castor (D-FL), Suzan DelBene (D-WA), Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), and Ro Khanna (D-CA). Speakers include:

  • Moderator: Dr. Abigail Regitsky, Senior Manager of U.S. Policy Advocacy at Breakthrough Energy
  • Jason Walsh, Executive Director at BlueGreen Alliance
  • Joe Quinn, Vice President of Strategic Industrial Materials at Securing America's Future Energy (SAFE)
  • Xan Fishman, Senior Director, Energy Program at the Bipartisan Policy Center
  • Phil Radford, Chief Strategy Officer, Sierra Club
  • Ebony Elmore, Volunteer, Michigan Chapter, Sierra Club
  • Harry Manin, Deputy Legislative Director of Industrial Policy and Trade, Sierra Club

WHEN: The policy luncheon is 12-2 p.m ET on Wednesday, January 17. The Sierra Club lobby day is Thursday, January 18.

WHERE: Capitol Visitor Center’s North Congressional Meeting Room (CVC 268)

WHY: Heavy industry accounts for nearly one-third of greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. Unfortunately, emissions are not declining quickly enough and may even increase, underscoring the need for breakthrough innovations and deployments in the manufacturing of critical goods like steel, aluminum, and cement.

Prioritizing industrial transformation will help the U.S. reduce climate pollution from a growing source of emissions, improve air quality and public health for fenceline communities, invest in domestic technological leadership, boost exports, create quality jobs in competitive industries, and decouple the economy from competitors that do not share the U.S.’s national security or economic interests.

RSVP: Interested journalists can RSVP to attend the policy luncheon at https://bit.ly/policy-luncheon. Lunch is provided to all attendees free of charge.
