WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, in a 50-49 vote, the Senate confirmed Dale E. Ho as a United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York, one of the most populated and racially diverse regions in the entire country.  A well-known public interest attorney with profound experience at the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and the ACLU, Dale Ho has spent his career defending the freedom to vote and fundamental liberties for all Americans.

To date, the Senate has confirmed over 130 of President Biden’s well-qualified judicial nominees.

In response, Sierra Club Democracy Program Director Courtney Hight issued the following statement:

“The Sierra Club congratulates Dale Ho on his confirmation to the Southern District of New York, and we thank Leader Schumer and the Senate for approving such a well-qualified and well-respected nominee. Our environmental laws are only as strong as the judges who uphold them, and we are confident Dale Ho recognizes the government’s obligation under the law to protect public health and the environment, values the public’s right to access the courts to hold government and industries accountable, and understands the difference between facts and politics. We look forward to Judge Ho taking the bench.

“We call on President Biden to continue to broaden the range of perspectives on the federal bench by nominating lawyers with careers advancing the public interest and on Leader Schumer and the Senate to continue advancing and swiftly confirming all judicial nominees until every vacancy is filled."
